Part of the Resistance

Intro: Children are full of creativity so usually they have imaginary friends, but did you ever think they have an imaginary world? Every imaginary world is different. Some are based off fairytales and princesses and others, race cars and superheroes. Anything can happen. In this one people can stay 18 for 10 years. For example, I am 18(2). I’ve been 18 for two years. Then when you turn 35 you stop aging. It’s crazy and impossible, right? Well, that’s what these worlds are like. But there comes a day when a child grows up. They put up their toys and choose phones over books. Their creativity is used less and less. They fall into a pattern or routine. Every day is the same as the last or next. By then they’re too far gone. They are grown up and forgotten their past. What happens when the child refuses to grow up? They fight against the others urging them to fall into the routine. “You’re not a child anymore,” they say. “Forget that stuff. You’re an adult now.” I guess that’s what’s happening now. Grown-Ups started taking over the imaginary world. No, not grown-ups. It’s Grown-Ups. They are soldiers that fight to end imagination. They are completely gray including their skin, clothes, and eyes. They raid towns forcing people to pay taxes, taking kids to train, and draining happiness wherever they go. The queen, owner of the imaginary world and my sister, is nowhere in sight. It’s like she disappeared off the face of the earth. With no one to help, things only got worse. I ran away from home, hoping to avoid capture. I found an abandoned factory and fixed it up. I made it a home for other kids. There were orphans and other run-aways. Then the Resistance was created. We train to fight the Grown-Ups. That was two years ago. We have had many encounters since then, but nothing like an actual battle. Now, tensions are rising. The Grown-Ups have been searching frantically for the Resistance. They are coming dangerously close.
