Long ago in Scandinavia there was a custom that on a day of great feasting men would go on an endeavor to see the future. They would deprive themselves of food and drink and lock themselves in dark rooms. At the stroke of midnight they would venture out into the forest and talk with the creatures of their folk tales. They would circle the church in strange ways. It is said that by completing these tasks the walker would stare into the eye of creation. A couple sits in the far corner all cozied up. An elderly man and woman sit just a few tables away from me and Sarah. I longed for love like that, but it's not best for me to get into a relationship after all I've been through. I now know there is another world out there and the less people who know about it, the safer it is for everyone.
