Shortlisted for the Open Novella Contest 2019 • Being a Supervillain is tough. Between managing a secret lair and making sure your mom doesn't stop loving you because you keep telling everyone she's dead, it's a really hard business to be good at? Add to that, the fact that somehow you got arrested because your cat sitter didn't take the day off and then you go around expressing your unconditional love for pancakes in a Super holding cell because technically they can't put you in a proper prison and you don't really have a choice because lawyers are expensive? And then, you realise your best friend is plotting go take over your spot as the greatest villain there ever was? Okay, maybe not the greatest, but you do come pretty close to it! To top it off, there's that one Superhero who's just so completely gorgeous, you couldn't imagine any harm coming to them? Because they're just that precious? I guess that makes me a Supervillain with minor time travel superpowers and a huge crush on a not so powerful Superhero? And all you have to do is protect yourself and everyone you love from your ex best friend/sidekick --because let's face it that's the highest level of praise for a wretched traitor here--and you also have to get out of Super Holding somehow? Benjamin Langley is a university student navigating the loss of his best friend, when he discovers his ability to see the future. Soon after, he's taken by force to the community, and comes to see and entire world he had no knowledge of. Meeting Matilda forces him to consider the fact that escaping quietly might not work out. Cameron Thomas doesn't remember a time when he wasn't in the community, but he's starting to. Or, at least he thinks he is? Like Matilda, he too struggles with his power, not in finding it, but rather in controlling it. Will he get it right when it matters? Oliver Hart is a charismatic veterinarian who discovers he can suddenly hear the animals thoughts. It would've been a powerful career booster if he hadn't been kidnapped and taken to the community. There, he uses his charisma to make a group of friends he'll never forget. Desperate to reconnect with her family, Kamella decides to use the powers that she has to become a villain named Blinq, just to get attention from her family. But life is already hard. Heading into her senior year in high school, trying to keep her crush away from the stupid boys she keeps dating, fending off suitors of her own, and then meeting other heroes and villains certainly keeps her on her toes. I'm not like wonder woman, supergirl or catwoman. The only similarity we share is that we all have an extraordinary ability and are females. Many people would say having superpowers was a gift from god and the best thing that could ever happen to you. But not for me, being able to freeze time was more of a burden, because I couldn't control it and it had the worst timing to appear. I also didn't think about being a superhero and rescuing the world from the bad. The only thing I want is to be left alone and get over with my last year of high school. In the year 2088, there exists a city known as Cyberlantis which is full of beautiful bright lights and incredible technology. One day, Ryan is hanging out after school with his close friends, when a mysterious object falls from the sky, and crash lands nearby. They go to investigate, only to find that the mysterious object is a dark astronaut's that is possessed by an alien lifeform. The helmet then forces itself onto Ryan's head, giving him strange superpowers that are truly out of this world. The group of friends, led by their new alien companion, embark on an exciting journey around the futuristic city of Cyberlantis, making new friends along the way and discovering some of the city's secrets from years passed by. However, throughout their adventure, the five friends cant help but feel that somebody is watching their every move... Originally, I created this book for my graphic art A level course, and since then I have expanded it into a two part series, both featuring hand drawn illustrations by me. The illustrations get much better in quality as the story goes along as my digital drawing skills grew overtime as I wrote the story.Complete
