Julie Spear is a 15 year old girl who has spent most of her life hiding. She hid her emotions deep inside of her. When she escapes the refuge where she was living,(being held captive, more like) she becomes a Newsie. She pretends to be a boy, so that they will accept her. She keeps telling herself to stay strong, and not develop feelings for any of these boys; not friendship, and definitely not love. But that is getting harder and harder, especially when one newsie in particular finds out her secret.
