Thirteen year old Amethyst Emerson is a girl who's family didn't care about, so much so that she was taken away and put into an adoption centre for "more love and care". But that didn't happen, none of it did.

But, then out of the blue, Andy and Juliet Biersack come when they found out something horrible. Juliet isn't able to conceive a baby. So the only way they can have a child at all is by adoption. They go to a "special centre for children" we're they see Amethyst, a girl who both Andy and Jul feel needs their help and care. They're right.

But then, soon, a boy from her past comes along with a very deep secret. Something with him has happened, seeming to be like her new, vampiric, body guard. But that isn't all that happens, his secret remains a secret to her new family.

More things you wouldn't guess happen. Her family still does not know anything, even when her family come back to see her.
