A species evolved into something better in the place once known as North America. There lies the nation of Imperium, a polished Capitol surrounded by ten outlying districts. The human species evolved to have more power then before to control the elements. To keep the districts in line the Capitol forces one teenager from the ages for fourteen to eighteen in each district to participate in the annual Elemental Games. One year all boys and one year all girls the Games change each year. A fight to the death, using the powers of our elements as their weapons.
Fifteen-year-old Amaranth Rosenberg thinks it is a stupid game they should never had started, but for the 113th annual Elemental Games the tributes were only girls. Amaranth steps forward in her best friends place in the Games. And Rosenberg has no clue what she had did, she had to go up against 9 other girls with elements of their own. She was from the plant district, power over the element of plants, where other districts had darkness, and fire. She thought she was doomed.

Haruko would develop feelings for Katsu as well, but there is only a tiny obstacle between their love. Haruko's uncle is the evil lord.
