Every human is born with their own Transpirit -- a special animal that reflects a person’s life energy. As a person grows older they are taught how to turn themselves into their Transpirit, how to control it, and how to use their animal to their advantage.
Almost a century ago the wolf Transpirits were accused of being evil, demon monsters after one of their kind attacked a young girl wearing a red cloak. The other Transpirits banned together and hunted down every last wolf-turner, placing a curse on their species so that they would forever be extinct.
Not a single wolf Transpirit has been born since the curse.
Or so they thought.
