After the death of his family and the loss of his hearing, twelve year old Morgan Sentin must move in with his grandmother and attend school for the hearing impaired. However, what was supposed to be a new start turns sour when he discovers that the school is divided by those who were born deaf and those who became deaf over time. He befriends Miles, a boy who has been deaf since birth, and together they try to survive middle school with Morgan's new found silence.
