This is a poem I written based off of my favorite book of all time! This is Holden Caulfield feeling terrible for his little sister, Pheobe, because of how innocent she is compared to the "phonies" he has met throughout his life. I used a carousel for the cover because at the end, Pheobe rides the carousel; Holden thinks about how she is growing up soon. The title is called Catcher in the Rye because Holden wants to catch little children off the cliff. It's a motif in the book meaning that he is keeping them from growing up and changing. This book has changed my life. It has really shaped me into a better person. It has also inspired me to read more and to become an English teacher. You should definitely read it. Yes, this book has a lot of profanity and drug use, but it is worth reading. The writing and message is just so beautiful. I cried at the end of the book. It's just so amazing!!!!
