Katherine is a teenager who grew up with her father's loss at a very young age. With her aunt going back to Scotland, she's left alone to take care of her depressed mother. Then finds out she has to put up with her mom's new boyfriend, Derek. He happens to be a total phoney, hating his lover's daughter behind her back: he beats her and treats her in the worst possible ways. Then her mother gets terribly sick. When she thought things couldn't get worst, she loses her best friend, the girl who's kept her going all along. How could she possibly go through another school year now?
