Child's play isn't so simple anymore. 

It's 1986. Nancy Reagan is President and the hot new pastime is Arcade Adventure Gaming, where players explore the Realm of Vircon in parties. Kids compete to top leaderboards in the four US Regional Divisions, trying for a shot at prizes and scholarships. Recently, a handful of players have gone missing. 

The old guy in the van almost kills Wyatt Jackson but a robot straight out of Doctor Who knocks them both out. When Wyatt wakes up, he's stuck in the Realm of Vircon game. As he meets the rest of his Party they discover that their would-be kidnappers are in there with them.

Can they evade their enemies and convince the mysterious force running the game to let them log out and go home?All Rights Reserved

In order to force citizens to remain peaceful after the riots about birth control, the massive country of Americo decided to allow scientists to stimulate the afterlife once they die. If a citizen was good and broke no laws, then the scientists would stimulate Heav, the equivalent to Heaven. If a citizen broke a few minor laws, they would go for Rebirth, where they are born with the same personality and mind, just different looks. If a citizen goes to jail for more than 15 years, the scientists would stimulate Ell, the equivalent to Hell. Lorian Hurando, director of the Afterlife Project, knows things about the system that few people know about. But when a letter arrives in the ocean of death threats one day that tells him to 'retire' or he will be in grave danger, he took the chance and retired. The letter is one in a series of letters that is all from a mysterious sender initialed H in cursive. When the final letter tells him to shut down the Afterlife, he must decide between right and wrong. But first he must know which is which. Heather Dia is the daughter of a store manager. When her dad is falsely accused and is sent to Ell, she is heartbroken and decides to get revenge on Director Lorian and leads him on a wild goose chase in order to shut down Afterlife, telling him that he will be in grave danger. But as time progresses, Heather wonders if she'll be right.

There's Casey with her army of gangsters, who wants nothing else but to make sure the Metro stays a jungle. There's Randal the mutant, a creature of nightmare surrounded by other misbegotten souls, cursed with an inexplicable fate. And then there's Tommy the Bouncer, Tommy the Butcher, Tommy the Terrible, who just wants to beat everything to a bloody pulp. These players and more all have their eyes on the prize: the Black Tape, the switch that if flicked may set off an age of no-death. Maybe. In the end, Sean will discover that the Metro might be too far gone. Hope's slim, but it's there. He just has to try. Easier said than done.
