After escaping the Maze with what friends she has left, Piper finds herself in the hands of some people that claim they are protecting her and everyone else from WICKED. Just when she thinks that she is safe inside their facility, her friends slowly begin to disappear, leaving her alone and helpless. But with the help of Aris and a group of new allies, Piper ends up in what is known as the Scorch where she must face even more challenges in order to find her friends.

But Piper soon realizes that being out in the open comes with more risk and danger, something that she isn't sure she's prepared for.
