Freshmen year of high school. Not much else to say about it, right? You've got your ridiculous amounts of homework, your seemingly endless relationship problems, and your friends who you always seem to disagree with, but put your faith in fully. It all seems pretty stereotypical. Except for the part where you find out you're mankind's last hope.

Kaylee is a freshman at Corson High and finding friends isn’t exactly something she excels at. So when a small group of girls suddenly invite her to join their astronomy club, she's ecstatic. But after a while, she starts to become suspicious of the group. They never let her come to their nightly meetings, where they always come back the next day beaten up and exhausted. Not something looking at stars usually does to you. Overwhelmed with curiosity, she follows them to one of their secret meetings. There, she discovers the truth about the group: they're The Dusk, Guardians of the Light, people chosen to defend the world and keep it from being overrun by the darkness.
The Shadows, the Soldiers of the Dark, are on the rise, and if not stopped, they could plunge everything into darkness.

The newly appointed leader of the Dusk believes Kaylee may be able their only chance of defeating them. Though, not everyone believes Alex. Doubt about her ability to perform has been spreading like wildfire ever since she came back that night wearing the moonstone. The teen struggles to ignore their comments, but it's hard when the dark secret of how she obtained her position haunts her thoughts.

Now, Kaylee is reluctantly being trained as a Guardian of the Light and only has a few weeks to master her powers before the full moon arrives and the Shadows strike. Will she be able to take down the Shadows and prove Alex right? Or is she just another lie?
