On the first Monday of April 1625, in Paris, Monsieur Charles d'Avaloy, a lieutenant in Louis XIII's Guard, suddenly finds himself mixed up in some high intrigue. Other than duels (which, admittedly, he has done quite often, and for a long time), the soldier normally keeps away from public life as much as possible. So, why, all of a sudden, does somebody want him dead? And, whoever it is, is willing to set assassins at his heels to make sure that the job gets done right ... Again, dueling other soldiers for honor is one thing, but assassination attempts are quite another! Within a single evening, not only is this man's life turned completely upside-down, but in order to keep this matter as hushed as possible, several other men have already been murdered - one of them just for attempting to warn him! ... Escape from the Sun King tells the fictional story of the Guillet family, Robert, wife Ruth, son Roberto, daughter Sarah, and son Lucas who are Huguenot ( Protestant followers of John Calvin) living in Paris during the revocation of the Edict of Nantes (1685) by Louis XIV the Sun King. This edict removes the right to worship their faith and gives the vicious dragonnades (soldier missionaries) the right to move in and persecute them in their own home. The family takes drastic action to survive and help others. Their daughter Sarah remains in Paris to look after the family's wealth and business interests by converting and marrying a Catholic. Family members face immense challenges including shipwreck, sexual assault, settling into a new country, starting a new business, indentured servitude, smuggling and fire. They meet their challenges despite all odds with close calls of capture by soldiers and tax collectors. For many of us, the Guillet are our ancestors. Although the characters are devout, this is not a book directed at a Christian audience. Instead, it is a story of courage and leadership faced by the people first described as refugees, especially the female members of the family. Light-hearted scenes include attending a ball at a grand house located on the Seine, a soiree at Versailles to meet the King and Madame Maintenon, a rescue at sea, smuggling on the Island of Jersey and interaction with a gang of ruffians in London.Complete

To Be a Spy
***2nd in Action/Adventure in the Blossom Awards!*** The year is 1126. The place, England. Rowen never really knew who her parents were. All she knew was that someone had left her on the steps of Great Hall; the spies' headquarters in England. Since she had been left there it seemed fitting that she should train there. So she became the first female spy. The years went by but not without their share of trouble. Then disaster happens and it is up to Rowen to face her past and to fix the problems. An army is forming, a man's life hangs in the balance and time is ticking down. While I wouldn't call this a historical fiction there are several people in this story who did actually live. For example, King Henry I did really rule during 1126, and his son really did die in a shipwreck. Brian Boru was an Irish hero who defeated the Vikings at Clontarf. I try to make the real people appear only in name and not actually as a character because I wouldn't want to give you the wrong picture of people who really existed. I hope you like Rowen's story, if something doesn't seem right don't be shy! Tell me what you think is wrong and I will do my best to fix it! Once we are alone, he turns to me, "We need to work on your acting skills. How can a commoner be such a bloody awful liar? Don't you learn that when you are infants?" "Oh, I'm sorry I don't lie for sport like you lot! Last I checked, it's the ones with the sticks up their arses who are so brilliant with deceit and after seeing your performance I know it to be fact! I've never heard such shit! As though I hold any regret, for telling that fancy prat anything, ha" I call back. Now that we are alone, I no longer require restraints as I let my temper run wild. He does something that takes me by utter surprise. He literally grabs my lips and pushes them together. "Don't you ever shut this mouth of yours!" I move my hands to his chest, trying to pay no mind to the heat radiating from him and give him a great push, shoving him a few steps back in surprise. "Don't touch me! Agh!" I let out before taking a breath, and with a little less force I add, "the King bought it didn't he." "Barely," he grunted. My head snapped back at him, I was fuming. How could a man make me so incredibly angry with just a few words?
