At that time, Naruto's movements stilled. There was a short pause before an nervous laugh filled the silence. It was nearly impossible for Kurama to die so Naruto chose to discard this as a joke. ("How could I be so naive.")

"̶D̶o̶ y̶o̶u̶ t̶h̶i̶n̶k̶ y̶o̶u̶ c̶o̶u̶l̶d̶ l̶i̶v̶e̶ w̶i̶t̶h̶o̶u̶t̶ m̶e̶?̶"̶

Fear gripped his lungs for a moment. He couldn't be alone anymore. The loneliness would 𝑘𝑖𝑙𝑙. The distress within his answer dawned on him and the look received from Kurama's form was genuine worry. ("My answer would always be no.")

𝑌𝑒𝑠.

Naruto blinked dazedly at his answer. He would live only if he were present. He was convinced life without Kurama was meaningless.

It was here again. His serious face. His firm frown. His meaningful stare.

He was the only one Naruto trusted not to hurt him but he wasn't perfect. And at times, promises were meant to be broken.

In a daze, Naruto stalked forwards. His cheeks were so pale, so thin. He was walking to his death, repeating the words he once thought were valid.

"Promises were meant to be broken."

With closed eyes, he allowed his body to be dragged further down into the river.
