Come From Away

Fourteen-year-old Alyssa Avon grew up in New York City, the child of two French immigrants. Her sister (who recently graduated college but was estranged from her parents for reasons Alyssa was never taught) refused to attend their parents' funeral after they were hit by cars. With no living family except Katie, she must fly to Dallas (where Katie lives) and then to New York with her sister. Katie was finally moving back to the city.

However, on her way to Texas from Paris, Alyssa's flight gets diverted to an obscure Canadian town: Gander.
