Esta historia se narra en un mundo donde la magia existe, un mundo de fantástico donde la magia es regida por los espíritus elementales, los humanos que poseen estos espíritus  son llamados hunters y estos se encargan de eliminar a unos monstruos cuadrúpedos llamados quimera cuyo origen es desconocido para la humanidad.

la historia se centra en un chico común y corriente llamado james, un día james y liar, un amigo de la escuela son atacados inesperadamente por varias quimeras de diferentes niveles, intentaron huir pero eran demasiadas y cuando ya no había escapatoria james despertó en su interior sus elementales escondidos y accidentalmente realizo un hechizo masivo que acabo con toda una zona, este hechizo estaba prohibido y por eso los hunters le buscaron para sancionarle pero el director de la organización de hunters  O.H. le perdono y le invito a estudiar en la hunters academy... pero...
habría un problema... el no sabe usar sus poderes!!
