It truly is amazing how quickly your life can get flipped upside down. Actually, I take that back. In my case, it was more like my life was flipped upside down, turned inside out, spun around in circles, and blown up. I wish I was kidding. One minute I was an ambitious fifteen-year-old, working part time at the Marine Research Institute, and the next, BAM! I was preparing to risk everything to help a specimen I caught in the first place escape from the facility. And it wasn't any ordinary specimen like plankton or bioluminescent fish, either. It was a mermaid. **some cursing**

There's something lurking in the woods. Sent to investigate the rumors of human experimentation surrounding an esteemed genetics laboratory in the middle of the Northern California forest, Special Agent Anna Volkova quickly realizes that this new assignment has her in over her head. With women vanishing, and the townspeople deathly afraid of the woods blanketing the small town of Blackwater, she knows this area isn't nearly as innocent as it may seem. The forest is hiding something, and she'll do whatever it takes to find out what. What she doesn't realize, however, is how far some people will go to keep their sins, and everyone who knows about them, buried. ~*~ Sickening cracks of bone filled the once-silent room, accompanied by the rapid beat of my heart and his echoing cries of anguish. Without warning, his head snapped up, and I could finally see his face clearly. My breath caught in my throat. His once warm amber eyes faded, tainted with a blood red that slowly dominated his irises, painting a feral crimson gaze that was now focused entirely on me. ---------- A new chapter will be posted every Friday!
