Story Karson has kept herself remote for all of high school. She figures that if people don't like her, then why bother trying to make them like her? With her confidence, being alone doesn't hurt her. She had grown to prefer it over time. The teachers know that she's a good a student and that's all that matters to her. But when Jake Havens shows up she begins to find it hard to remain alone. The two are paired together for a project, and she finds herself sharing more than just notes with him. It's been years since someone her age has shown interest in her, but she doesn't know if she's ready to open herself up yet. For years she's kept so many family secrets to herself. Now she has to decide if she's ready to finally let someone in, or if she wants to sacrifice something great to remain by herself.

He knows their history started before she even knows, what he didn't expect was for her to be so different from what he has always believed.
