Malungkot ang mukha ni Emil.  "Nauunawaan ko ang ibig mong sabihin," wika niya, "pero sa kabila noon, ay naniniwala pa rin akong wala tayong karapatan upang hatulan at parusahan ang sino mang lumabag sa batas."

"Emil," mahinahon nguni't matatag na wika ni Rodel, "ang karapatan ay nasa lahat ng tao.  Karapatan nating lahat ang mabuhay.  May karapatan ang bawa't isa na akayin ang buhay na iyon saan man niya gusto, kapag mayroong humadlang, ay may karapatan siyang ipaglaban iyon.  Kung gusto kong mabuhay sa gitna ng isang lipunang mapayapa't tahimik, ay may karapatan akong linisin ang kasamaang namamahay doon.  Hindi ba makatwiran iyon?"

"Marahil nga." Ani Emil at lumapit sa binata.  Itinungo nito ang kanyang ulo para ikubli sa binata ang luhang nangingilid sa kanyang mga mata.  "Natatakot ako Rodel."  Yumakap siya sa binata.  "Natatakot akong baka kung saan magwakas ang iniisip mong iyan."
