As a child, Ashne swore two oaths. With her adopted sister Zsaran she made a pact: one would never die without the other. To their mistress, the queen, who plucked them both out of the inhospitable marshlands, she vowed eternal loyalty.

When a tiger spirit from a rival kingdom kidnaps the queen's only daughter, Ashne, now a trusted bodyguard, follows in pursuit despite knowing that her sword will be of little use against the ancient magic steadily reawakening across the land. But it is her human adversaries who prove more dangerous as she navigates the shifting political landscape in a kingdom still recovering from a decades-long war: a foreign sorcerer, an eccentric apothecary, an ambitious bandit chief — perhaps even Zsaran, who has long awaited a chance to achieve freedom for both herself and Ashne.

Soon Ashne can no longer reconcile her love for her sister and her devotion to the women they have both served since childhood. Yet she must bring back the princess regardless. If not for love and duty, for her people's continued survival against the encroachment of powerful foreign conquerors, before whose ravenous ambitions the squabbles of two tribal kingdoms amount to dust.

Arendella was a kingdom divided by strict hierarchies, where the nobles lived in splendour while the common folk toiled under the weight of their daily struggles. Mei Lin, with her quiet grace and resilient spirit, had long accepted her place in the world, finding solace in the simple pleasures of nature, the beauty of the night sky, and the warmth of her family's love. Yet, her heart harboured dreams that reached far beyond the horizon, dreams she dared not speak aloud. In the farthest reaches of Arendella, where the mountains touched the sky, resided the kingdom's strongest warrior, Kael. Known as the Dragon's Blade, Kael was a figure of legend, his prowess in battle unmatched, his loyalty to the kingdom unwavering. He was the son of King Aldric, the ruler of Arendella, and his life had been one of constant training and preparation, for he was destined to protect the kingdom and its people from any threat that might arise. It was during the ceremony, as the flames of the dragon's altar cast a warm glow upon the gathering, that Kael's gaze fell upon her. Mei Lin, dressed in the simple garb of a servant, was one of the sacrificials. She was a beauty under the dirt & rag, yet unnoticed by the nobility. To Kael, however, she was like a beacon in the darkness, her quiet beauty and inner strength capturing his attention like no one ever had before. For the first time in his life, Kael felt something stir within him that had nothing to do with duty or honour. There was a connection, a spark that drew him to Mei Lin. Read on to find out how the story unfolds. Adaptation of "The War God's Favourite" by Jenny Fox

Following the fall of the Chinese empire, the gods ascended into the heavens, and the Dragon Throne, which had served as the tie between the mortal and immortal worlds, sat empty for many decades. The world was far from perfect, but life continued on without the gods. The mythical Jade City-the last refuge for those seeking to practice the old traditions-came to accept that age of the empire and of the gods was over. That is, until Heaven chose the unlikeliest of children as the Heirs to the throne. To save China from an ancient evil so terrible, it almost conquered Heaven, the Heirs must restore the throne and restore the gods. But can they accomplish this task, while simultaneously battling each other for the right to rule that is the Mandate of Heaven? Four have been marked by Heaven, but only one can be emperor.
