Kara, a soon-to-be high school graduate with her eighteenth birthday on the horizon, never expected to be her younger brother's keeper the day she found him cradling their near-lifeless mother in his arms.

No one's life was supposed to go this way. In a heartbeat, everything changed as the two siblings found themselves covered in the blood of their mother, begging her to hang on. One small accident capable of changing everything they knew. Kara and her little brother, Ryan, have no choice but to grow up fast as they try to navigate through life with the help of those they deem their closest allies, but cracks in smiling facades quickly begin to reveal themselves.

In search of her own independence, Kara is left with a choice: either be there for her brother and suffer in silence alongside him or chase after a fantasy she desperately wants to make a reality, even if it involves making some questionable choices. Either option won't bring their mother back, but the viciousness of the world is waiting with open arms and doesn't share their remorse.

Locked Away is a story told from multiple perspectives, focusing on the effect that Kara's presence has on their lives.
