It has been about seven months since the Scoobies' last hurrah. They have all just adjusted to the latest turn of events.

Since Spike's death, Buffy has spent her time training and hanging out with Willow, Xander, and Dawn (before she sent her to a boarding school in California-where Angel can protect her if she needs it).
Giles has gone to England to take some much needed time off. Riley returns.
