"I don't even remember how we really got talking." I asked, after he didn't say anything back. "You were at our table." "Well duh, I just mean I just remember choosing you to talk to. The other guys were so lame." Elliot looked at me like I was crazy. "Uh... what?" "I chose you." He said, and my heart skipped a beat. What did he mean? He obviously didn't do this often with a girl, because saying a phrase like that is not to be taken lightly in a girl's mind. I wondered how much of what he said he realized the emotional intent behind the words, or if he just spoke without really thinking what I, or any girl, would see it as. He had to know that girls read into things way more than guys, but something about him made me think that he did know what he was saying, but maybe not realizing the repercussions until later. I could tell he easily let his guard down with me. "What do you mean?" "You said you chose me, but I chose you. I saw you and started to talk to you first." "Oh." And again, I was a complete idiot because I should have asked him to expand, and tell me what he meant or to tell me more, but I didn't. I didn't because I was scared I would show too much emotion. ------------------------------------- Leece is new to Texas, running from her past and wanting to take control of her own future. Elliot is a new Texas attorney whose sole focus is making money and making a name for himself. Then one night, they meet. It so happened that for the first time in her life she wasn't looking for a guy and he actually chose to talk to her first, which he never did. She was about love. He was about law. Love was about giving in, and he refused. Law is about control and she was uncontrollable. What a story they made.
