"For you, love, I'd give up all the safety I have and ever will have."

For a year, the Sanders Sides have been safe in the Mind. Their relationships have grown, their knowledge has expanded, and all has gone well. With Valentines Day coming up, Roman has planned a grand party in his kingdom, Creativity.

But the cheeriness that has prevailed in the Mind for the past year has come to an abrupt end. Something is wrong with Milly, but she refuses to reveal what. Nightmares haunt Camille nearly every time she sleeps. Misunderstandings lead to a fight that leaves Virgil and Roman's relationship in shambles. To top it all off, the Valentines Day party is crashed by a group of violent creatures of the night who kidnap multiple people, including Roman.

In a matter of days, safety becomes nothing more than a pipe dream and relationships are destroyed. Can anyone be trusted, or are there imposters hiding in plain sight? Even if Roman returns home safely, will anything go back to normal? Will love bring the Sanders Sides together to save the Mind and themselves, or will it be the bringer of their destruction?
