He was newly regenerated after the Time War and was still grieving. He thought he kept the TARDIS locked, but someone unexpected stepped in illegally because she was curious. вєℓℓє was punished for her actions, and the Doctor dropped her off in a different time. Travellers' Hearts {The Wattys 2017}
The Doctor, in his 10th incarnation, meets another traveller again. He and Kate seem to complete each other perfectly. But he doesn't know how perfectly until he discovers something about her that will change his life forever. I do generally follow the lines of BBC Doctor Who, but might add or change some details. All main characters, except for Kate and characters that are only connected to her, belong to BBC Doctor Who. I regularly updated!
