You're in luck, this is an attempt to provide a fictional "fig leaf" for how the Zombies of The Walking Dead could keep shambling around years later. It's not meant to be a serious attempt at explaining the undead, just enough to give a nitpicker something to handwave away problems.

Trying to survive the apocalypse isn't just about slaying the undead. It's a 𝘸𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘦 lot more complicated than that. Hardly anybody ever considers the barbaric murderers with the Cheshire Cat smiles or the cunning killers lurking around for their next victim to slice open. Or what about the huge range of communities out there, trying their best to thrive in the new world? Surely, not all of them are bad... right? Well, Brooklyn Scotts would be inclined to disagree to that last point made. For the girl has been surviving on her own since it all started, joining and leaving small groups here and there.
