Cross has never actually talked among the bad sanses during their times of just hanging out and doing random stuff, he usually just eats taco's or chocolate and stay in his room. 

Nightmare, the leader of the group, has secretly kept his eye on cross. Watching him as he went up to his room, as They all ate nightmare kept cutting his eyes to cross who didn't speak at all.

Nightmare wanted to show his love to cross but in the slightest bit afraid cross will turn him down and reject him...

In exchange Cross served him, stayed by his side, devoted his life to him in such a manner that it almost could be called worshiping. He was a god, afterall. Cross knew he would do anything for Nightmare. He'd kill for him, had killed for him, he'd protect him, even die for him. And if that couldn't be achieved, well, then he'd die with him.
