They were created by a myth; Sirens. Sirens began as half-birds, but transitioned into half-fish because the humans changed whom they were. Either way, they were created and predators to humans.
Mars, another siren remembers her death, and who pushed her overboard. The horror of being dragged down into the icy waters...
The humans created us, and many others. The humans are no longer the most powerful, we are.
