Steppenwolf (originally Der Steppenwolf) is the tenth novel by German-Swiss author Hermann Hesse.

Originally published in Germany in 1927, it was first translated into English in 1929. Combining autobiographical and psychoanalytic elements, the novel was named after the German name for the steppe wolf. The story in large part reflects a profound crisis in Hesse's spiritual world during the 1920s while memorably portraying the protagonist's split between his humanity and his wolf-like aggression and homelessness.

Steppenwolf was wildly popular and has been a perpetual success across the decades, but Hesse later asserted that the book was largely misunderstood.

Included on Wattpad's HistoricalFiction World Wars reading list. - * - * - * - Being in the French Resistance wasn't what Alice Klein envisioned her life looking like. She'd wanted a husband and a flat in Paris, and maybe a cat with a pink bow who would sleep on her piano. But bullets didn't discriminate between male or female, young or old. Alice knew that better than most. As a half-German, half-French Jew, it seemed no matter where she went, she was hated. To the German army or Vichy France, she was a traitor. To any uneducated Allied soldier, her last name screamed Nazi. When the Maquis heard of the Allies looking for connections to the French Resistance, they'd quickly offered up Alice as a multilingual translator and Underground liaison. Whisked away from the French Alps, she arrived to the States to train as a paratrooper, knowing that failure was not an option no matter how much she disliked it. Lucky for her, she didn't just find barracks and training grounds in America. She found men, and in them, family to replace the one she'd lost. - * - WARNINGS for realistic depictions of world war ii, strong language, era-typical sexism, era-typical anti-semitism, alcohol abuse, cigarette abuse, past sexual assault - * - * - * - Pairing: mostly gen, way down the line it's eventual Lewis Nixon/OC BOOK ONE in [ A Tale of Two Heritages ] Start Date: December 5, 2019 End Date: March 24, 2020 Final Word Count: 150,786 Cross-posted to FFN and Ao3 - * - * - * - #1 in World War Two, #1 in Band of Brothers, #1 in Feminist, #1 in 1940s, #1 in Lewis Nixon FIRST PLACE: Cherry Blossom Awards 2020, Writer's Glory Awards 2020 THIRD PLACE: Historical Fiction in Spice Off Award, Fanfiction in Majestic Inc. MAGISTER LUDI - THE GLASS BEAD GAME (Completed), de HermannHesse

The Glass Bead Game (German: Das Glasperlenspiel) is the last full-length novel of the German author Hermann Hesse. It was begun in 1931 and published in Switzerland in 1943 after being rejected for publication in Germany due to Hesse's anti-Fascist views. A few years later, in 1946, Hesse went on to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. In honoring him in its Award Ceremony Speech, the Swedish Academy said that the novel "occupies a special position" in Hesse's work. The Glass Bead Game takes place at an unspecified date centuries into the future. Hesse suggested that he imagined the book's narrator writing around the start of the 25th century.[4] The setting is a fictional province of central Europe called Castalia, which was reserved by political decision for the life of the mind; technology and economic life are kept to a strict minimum. Castalia is home to an austere order of intellectuals with a twofold mission: to run boarding schools for boys, and to cultivate and play the Glass Bead Game, whose exact nature remains elusive and whose devotees occupy a special school within Castalia known as Waldzell. The rules of the game are only alluded to-they are so sophisticated that they are not easy to imagine. Playing the game well requires years of hard study of music, mathematics, and cultural history. The game is essentially an abstract synthesis of all arts and sciences. It proceeds by players making deep connections between seemingly unrelated topics. Cover by: @theygotgone

America is the loud, obnoxious, immature nation the countries know, right? But what if he wasn't? What secrets surface after a more than odd call shoves the crew of nations into a side of America most have never seen. I wrote this just for fun so there is kinda quick pacing along with slow updates. I'd love some criticism about it so I can improve. I use google translate for any foreign language so please correct it if it's wrong in the comments and I will fix it. Otherwise please enjoy. #1 in ivanbraginski 7/4/20 #1 in thestates 7/5/20 #1 in aphamerica 7/8/20 #4 in Rusame 7/12/20 #2 in Hetalia 10/7/20 {Cover is not mine}
