When an asteroid crashes on Jacob Byers's country, everyone expects death and destruction. What they don't expect is for people with extraordinary abilities to emerge.

As many Altered-the name given to those who had been changed after the space rock landed-turn to mischief, the other Altered try to bring justice to their country. With more malevolent Altered than heroes running around causing death and destruction, (the very things people expected but in a completely different way to come), Jacob and his friends decide it's their turn to try to save his town.

However, little does he realize that the Altered aren't the biggest of his worries. Mysterious murders of Altered and sightings of people with glowing silver eyes occur, leaving Jacob and his friends with the task of not only saving their town, but also saving their country and possibly the world.

In this book, you will experience as Jacob's life changes from close to nothing to immediately everything. After the death of a close friend, you will see as he struggles to contain his sorrow and then makes it his goal to find his friend's murderer, all while he tries to control the criminals in town. You will see as he is completely altered.
