Gertrude Smith is a twenty year old women going through life just like everyone else. She has had her up and her downs. She seems like a normal girl: good grades, on the college swim team, has many friends, catches the eyes of many guys, and just comes out as a happy person. However, she doesn't feel this way. She has been through bullying, relationship problems with her biological father and ex lover, coping with her emotions as well as everyone else's problems, trying to fit in with her family, dealing with her mental disability, and a secret that could change her life in a good or bad way. She feels trapped, from being called names to being blackmailed by the one person who everyone looks up to. Will she be able to get through this struggle by herself or will she need to be saved by her family, friends, or the mysterious girl she met online named Kel. But who would want to help the girl who, in her eyes, is the Frankenstein creature?
Emma thought death was the end, but it was only the beginning.
Through the advancement of nineteenth century science, Emma has been brought back to life, but not as she was. She has become a new person, created from the sewn remains of the dead. Emma awakens in a strange new world that she doesn't understand. The life she left behind still echoes within her, though no matter how she reaches for it, the memories slip away.
Yet another force hides in the shadows, and threatens to throw Germany into war. Emma's newly found world begins to crumble, and she must soon decide whether she wishes to begin her life anew or continue with the life she left behind--and whether she belongs in the world of the living or the dead.
