Two things keep Kara Crescent from feeling like the other wolves of her pack. First is her heritage. Kara is the only child of the pack's Alphas, making her next in line to claim leadership.
Second is her mind. The day of her mother's mating to her father, she received what all Female Alphas do on that day, a gift from her Fate. Going against the norm, her mother chose a gift that wouldn't affect her. She asked for a daughter, one who would think independently from the pack. How could she know how it would affect Kara and her Fate?
Now of age for her own mating, Kara does not want her Fate to make the choice for her. She wants a say in who will be her mate, and the next Alpha of her pack. After a heated argument with Silver (her Fate) she is granted the gift she thinks she deserves.
