The first generation past the war has settled and the result is something no one from the past would recognize. In the United Human Alliance, the human run country that takes up much of the land mass that used to be the United States, magical children are taken from their parents and sent to boarding school at a young age. What provides humanity with safety from 'volatile' magical beings separates parents from their children and young adults from their culture.
Alenia Paetzold is the prime example of what the UHA has created. A domestic dragon. That's why they never expect her to find her wings and burn the cage she is held in to the ground. Getting there, however, takes a prophecy, a lot of lies, and overwhelming love.
