Computer updates are simple, right? 
That's not always the case when it involves a Spaceship's AI in the middle of deep space.
We have always relied upon technology to travel through space, but sometimes that very same technology develops a mind of its own...

Rachel, a junior assistant in the cargo bay, wasn't prepared for the spaceship's AI to gain awareness during what should have been a routine update, nor had anyone expected it to take exception to the crew and the crates of illegal cargo aboard.
Rachel races against time to try and get life-saving systems back online while stranded in the middle of deep space. Unfortunately for her, the AI can access every system, door, and airlock.
As truths emerge, the AI realizes that even computers can make miscalculations, and it focuses on the young woman who had dared to confront it.
Rachel is left floundering when the AI decides that she would make an excellent captain, albeit one in need of training. As she struggles to learn her new duties and dodge shady government groups, she must ultimately discover what it truly means to be a Starship Captain.

Back in the late 1990's a great PC game came out called FREELANCER. It was an open galaxy adventure space game that had a good storyline. I spent untold hours flying through space in this game and I always thought it was ripe for a spinoff side story but I never pursued it. Nearly 30 years later I discovered a website called GOOD OLD GAMES where you could find and download many great games of yore. There I found FREELANCER. So I climbed back into the cockpit of a starfighter after so long and have enjoyed it even more than I did way back when. Once again the possibility of a side story presented itself and this time I have risen to the challenge. I have always been an avid reader of SCI-FI and I will be the first to tell you that I have blatantly used ideas from other sci-fi works in my story. I have also used names of real people and places to flesh out my narrative. I was screaming even louder thinking I was going to die. But then I landed in somebody's arms. I reacted quickly and punched the guy in the face. He let go of his grip on me and I started running only to be grabbed by another person. I kicked the person in the shin and then stomped on his left foot making him lose his balance. Then I flipped him over my shoulder and onto the ground. I was about to start running again when I heard Madi's scream. "MADI!!" I yelled, I looked over to see some guy was lifting her off the ground by her waist. I ran towards him and jumped on his back. He let go of her and then she kicked him in the stomach. I jumped off and we started running but Madi got grabbed and before I could run toward her, the guy who grabbed her pulled out a gun and put it to her head. "NO!"
