Alex Manning, after what happened in his life ("Written with Their Blood"), decides to quit his job at the police. One day, he is invited by his old friend for the weekend to his residence. When it comes to the murder, Alex's friend asks him to find the murderer among the people gathered at the house before he call the police ("The One Last Note"). Having managed to solve the matter he decides to  become a private detective. 
Each new story is another investigation conducted by Alex.
