***Dystopian/ Romance***  I live in a divided world-Humans vs. BioSwaps.

BioSwaps were the government's creation, engineered behind the towering concrete walls of The Meds facility, hidden away from the public eye. For years, they remained locked away, but two years ago, something went wrong. Whatever was happening behind those walls spiraled out of control, and the BioSwaps found a way out. Now, they walk among us, seamlessly blending into society.

We were raised to fear them-to believe they could be anywhere, anyone. They look just like us, indistinguishable from humans, which makes them even more dangerous. At least, that's what we've been taught.

But I'm not afraid.

The problem is, I can't admit that. Any hint of sympathy toward BioSwaps is considered treason, a direct threat to human safety. If I so much as suggest that they aren't the monsters we were told they are, I could be sent to The Quaren.

And nobody comes out of The Quaren the same.

In the blink of an eye, things change. An ominous message is sent out to all of those below the age of sixteen, providing precise instructions that suggest they flee. Simultaneously, a deadly virus starts to spread all about the world, attacking only the Altered -- every human over the age of sixteen. The virus eats at the modified human brain, and soon the Unaltered begin to realise that the Altered are losing their minds. Home is no longer safe. Friends and family turn on one another, losing control of their own minds and bodies. The Unaltered aren't safe. Even if the virus isn't attacking them, the ones with the virus are. Six high school students looks like anyone else acts like anyone else but are capable of things no one else is. They learnt from a young age no one that means NO ONE can know about their powers even their parents and other siblings. It brings out the true friends and those who just want to use you. In the end, what do you do when your closest friend betrays you? This is the story as they try to keep their biggest darkest secret of what they are capable of and as they discover they're not the only ones like them... I am not very good at trigger warnings before individual chapters but there is mention of blood, cold abuse and parents divorcing. (But read at your own risk in case I mention something else. I am working on rewriting this story and when I do there will be the trigger warnings in the correct places.) (small teaser.) No one sees me. I am a ghost. I brush against the wooden fence. No one will believe it was me who disappeared into a fence and appeared on the other side of school. I stare at my brother. He made eye contact with me, confirming my suspicions. We both saw it. Everyone was evacuated from the home planet over 150 years ago. Our planet was dying, it was only a matter of time before our race was wiped out. We now live on a synthetic planet designed and built by our ancestors who came together from all parts of the globe to devise a plan to save us. We have lived peacefully for over a century.. Until now. Our lives were threatened when a mysterious and deadly virus broke out, killing entire communities at a time. The council says that they have a plan; they said that in order to prevent the death of more innocent people they will test every man, woman, and child for signs of the virus. Any person found to have been infected will be quarantined, the ones who die will be given a proper burial while the ones who survive are deemed carriers and are to be sent to the home planet to prevent further outbreak. I was prepared for the people I know and some I love being taken away for the greater good, but I never would have expected that among the list of people being taken from my community, that I would be one of them.. I survived the quarantine. Now for the survival of my planet I, and the other Carriers must be sent to the home planet. I'm going back to Earth. As long as their getting closer to the sky, they don't care what they stand on to reach it. They don't know about the sparkling dreamer that's killed 7 people before her 17th birthday. They don't about the ghost of a girl peaking around corners for her entire life because even home wasn't safe. The Beasts blended in amongst us as if we were the same, except humans didn't have the same predatory instincts and we couldn't change our forms like they could. Soon after we learnt that we weren't the only species people began going missing.
