Being the apprentice of the Dragon of the West entails a lot more than just drinking tea and playing Pai Sho, unfortunately.

Shia has lived a miserable life, restricted by her noble grandfather's draconian training and her mother's everpresent disapproval; treated like a criminal by her own flesh and blood for sins that are not hers, she has never been more than a pawn at best. Her salvation comes to her in the form of Iroh, the General of the Fire Nation, who takes her under his wing once she is sent away by her family to serve as a child soldier.

Under his tutelage, she becomes a fierce warrior with a calm mind. Years later, she joins her mentor and his nephew in their quest to capture the Avatar.

A quest that alters the course of Shia's life irrevocably.

metanoia (n.) - the journey of changing one's mind, heart, self or way of life.

An Avatar: The Last Airbender fanfiction. Please note that the only character that belongs to me in this story is Shia, my OC. Slowburn Zuko x OC, for those of you who like romance.

Avatar: the Last Airbender Fanfiction Zuko x OC Makki is the twin sister of Sokka and the older sister of Katara. She is one of the last Southern water benders, along with her sister. At the age of ten, she lost her mother in a Fire Nation raid, right at the South Pole; all she has left is her mother's necklace, which Katara wears around her neck. After that, her father left to fight in the Hundred Year War, along with all the other grown warriors, and Makki and her siblings were put under the care of their Gran Gran. She grew up practicing her bending and helping Katara with all the chores, while their brother practiced his fighting skills and tried teaching the younger boys of their village. Makki's siblings followed their destiny of helping Aang master all four elements while Makki was stuck on a path with the Fire Nation Prince Zuko and his uncle Iroh. When Makki, Zuko, and Iroh became fugitives from the Fire Nation and refugees inside the Earth Kingdom, Makki had no choice but to help the lost prince find his way onto the right path. But in the end, Makki will find that it's tougher work than she first anticipated, though, she figures out how to connect with the prince and may even develop feelings for him. I do not own any of the artwork or story shown in this book. I only own the original character Makki and her actions in the book. The Lady Xia

40 parts Complete Mature

Living the disgrace of her grandfather, Xia's parents send her to the Fire Nation Captial to try to win favor with the Fire Lord. Little Xia is meant as the most recent playmate for Princess Azula, a very dangerous job. However, Xia matched Azula in her Firebending abilities, and the two become friendly rivals. Xia became famous for her yellow fire, not nearly as dangerously hot as Azula's blue fire, but a warmth that fuels Xia's will. Though Xia was close friends with Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee, she volunteered to accompany Zuko and Iroh on their hunt to find the Avatar. Calm and patient Xia became Zuko's new sparring partner, and Iroh's favorite Pai Sho challenger. "How can you be drinking tea at a time like this?!" Zuko demanded. I looked at him as if surprised by his stupidity, "because I do not particularly like cold tea." A laugh followed my statement and we both turned to Iroh, "you see, Prince Zuko. Xia knows that there are times to march forward, but there are also times to take a step back." "What does that even mean?" Zuko asked furiously. "It means that I take time to think," I replied gently. "Now, why don't we go and continue your quest for the Avatar?" *I update by book. So the first thirteen chapters are book one. Updates are very slow, but over ten chapters at a time.
