the only ways out of the hell of being a gladiator is either death, or winning 200 battles. Of course Ella has won nearly five thousand, but her contract starts over with every master.
So to put it short, Ella's life sucks.
but when Ella's new owner looks a bit too familiar for her liking, her life of slavery looks to be at it's end.
