Two years after leaving a toxic home at the age of 17, things are finally turning around for Gabriela Patrova. She has a steady job, a roof over her head, and people she feels comfortable with. A gifted swimmer able to hold her breath for an unbelievable length of time, Gabriela spends her days in tank playing the role of a mermaid for the Coney Island Curiosities Museum & Theater. And she's about to get her big break.

James Avery Westchester, heir to the steel empire his father built, is New York society's golden boy. On the outside, he represents the unadulterated spoils and vices of the Jazz Age. But on the inside, the walls are closing in, his father's expectations and family duty slowly choking him.
