On 13th of June 2012, a myserious species of fungus was discovered in the forests of North America, which would eliminate microsopic spores which would enter in the host's organism and go dormant until the victim's body reaches the state of death or is triggered by a bite from another infected individual. Once dead, if the brain isn't destroyed, the body will reanimate, and seek to infect more victims via biting.
In less than a few weeks, 55% of the whole population deceased, so the goverment decided to give up on smaller towns and focus on bigger and important ones, leaving the door open.
In a small town, located in North America, called Sunset Valley, a group called "The Keepers of Light" decided to take control of most of it, executing anyone who wouldn't obey.
Follow the story of young survivors seeking for shelter in this Hell on Earth.

No could figure out at first how and where it came from or how even spread so quickly. I was on leave, visiting brother in Boston when the infection hit. Megan couldn't believe her eyes. Her brain was muddled with confusion she couldn't get rid of, no matter how many times those strangers reassured her and explained what happened. But she had to accept it, even though it didn't make any sense to her. Megan had been with her mother every step of the way since everything turned to chaos, beginning just a year before, and now she was nowhere to be seen. And on top of that, she had the zeds to deal with. Ghastly creatures that used to be human, carrying a virus that's spread through a constant hunger for flesh from the host, spreading through bites and scratches. It didn't exactly make it easy to prevent getting infected. Things could have been worse, though, Megan thought. She could've been left all alone to ponder over her thoughts and fear over the future. It'll only be within the time spent with the new group will she find out that everything's not as happy and welcoming as it had seemed. These people had a few secrets of their own, including the real reason they took Megan in. "As of now people are dying evidently people become depressed and aggressive to one and other. They all used to live in harmony and happiness, that was until the 'things started to raise. The 'things' are as you would call it zombies but of greater skill. They disguise themselves as humans yet they will not hesitate to kill you and eat you. If someone is a 'thing', automatically presume them dead, or at least soon to be dead. It will always take about 2 weeks to become fully changed, hopefully you can chop of that body part in time for the infection to stop. If you can't, put an end to your soon to be painful and horrible turn/death. These beings as I announced only a moment ago, look exactly like a human, two way to tell if they are one or not, their attitude and their eyes. They don't have emotions, only hunger and let me tell you, they will go out of their way to eat you, they will speak but it will sound different... Deformed almost. The eyes are usually the first to become infected, they become slightly red at first, as time progresses so does the intensity of the color red in the eye. The color in their eyes they once possessed, will seem dull, it will seem as if they are unfocused or unfamiliar with their surroundings. That is all I can tell you for the moment Lexi, but know their are people waiting for your arrival, and we are waiting for you to end this suffering race." In the late 2020s, a classified defense project attempted to weaponize rabies by accelerating its incubation period and enhancing transmission efficiency. The idea was to create a fast-acting deterrent virus-a tool to incapacitate enemy combatants before they could react. Researchers used genetic engineering to splice rabies with elements of marburg virus (rapid replication) and human myeloid precursor cells (to help it bypass the body's immune response). At first it seemed to be a success and a great weapon that can cause a significant loss against the enemy. However the loss to be incurred was not that of life but the loss of control of one's own mind. While initially a weapon to destroy the enemy the weapon later came to destroy, not just one or two nations but society itself.
