Born in Linsierre, a world where magic is an ancient art that is practiced commonly, the entire world is ruled by a single council, trolls and golems live in caves, and a lucky few ride dragons, Hail Greyson has been chosen for one of the greatest honors in the world; Dragon training.

How did a sixteen year old boy get chosen for something so great?

Every 10 years, each one of the 7 world council members chooses 1 person who is in-between the ages of 10 and 18 to become a dragon rider. To keep things fair, the child can not be in their family.

The council member also chooses one of 20 types of dragons for the child. No two children can have the same type of dragon.

Hail was chosen by Grant Walsh, the oldest member of the council.

Being chosen by the oldest member of the council is considered the greatest honor possible, because the person they choose will be the last person that they ever choose. Also, because the people of Linsierre believe strongly in wisdom with age, the oldest is considered to be the wisest.

This means that Grant's choice in Hail was the wisest possible.
