It's the year 9400, two generations since the latest ice age ended. The ice had flash frozen 7,300 years ago and melted the same way, in a flash. The extreme changes in climate left many frozen to death or drowning. The world left with most major continents under water. Now, the human race survives mainly on boats, five huge ships, holding hundreds of citizens each, each with their own names but collectively called the Silver Lining. But the Silver Lining ships aren't the only floating havens on the stormy, water covered earth, piratean, pirates.
When The Sovereign, one of the five ships, goes through another storm Greyson Elk and his little brother end up stranded, bobbing up and down in the freezing sea, fearing the worst for them both. He should have been grateful when they're saved, but it seems a fate worse than death snatched them from the sea, pirates.
Eloise, or El, grew up on The Dipper, a survivor ship from the melting years before she was born. Her whole world was upon the Dipper, an old ideals, high tech boat holding twenty four people, but after one early morning on deck, that number becomes twenty six.
