Lucy, Erza, and Jellal were all sent to the Tower of Heaven when they were little. Erza never knew Lucy she only saw the blonde around but never talked to her but Lucy definitely knew Erza, on her down time she would watch the redhead work.
Jellal and Lucy were best friends and everyone thought that Lucy liked Jellal especially Erza, it was because she would blush when ever they hung out.
Erza noticed that more recently Jellal has been sneaking out of the cell at night so one day she followed him, she saw him walk up to someone.
When the rampage of the new Jellal happened Erza was getting on a boat when someone called her name. Erza saw it was the person Jellal was hanging out with every night and continued to leave.
The person caught up with the small boat and they escaped together... skip 10 years on a fateful day....
