The (fictional) diary of Daniel Friedmann, dubbed Josef Yudashkin in Russia, a survivor of the Holocaust. A man trapped in the attic of a barn with a a notebook, a pen, a faulting memory, and all the time in the world. As he tries to recall his family to keep him sane, his mind wanders back into the dark places he was so keen on forgetting. Lost and stripped of his identity and personal belongings, he wonders if he can ever make it home to his wife, Adina, young son, Israel, and hard-headed younger brother Tobiah-if any of them survived.
