The universe works in strange ways, though to Mara, these mysteries aren't much of a mystery cause she's seen it all. She's experienced all the beautiful things it created only to snatch them away from her. All the pain and hate that came with it, and the losses that were endured.
What a cruel life, right? To have to suffer again and again until all hope is lost. Until you give up.
Except for Mara, giving up is not an option, certainly not when you've spent 3 years of your life locked up behind bars for the attempted murder of your boyfriend and unborn child. And definitely not when you've survived 6yrs of abuse, along with the first 5yrs of your life filled with neglect. Ha! There was no way the universe could top that! There was nothing else to destroy, cause she had absolutely nothing left.
Well, she did have nothing back then. Now, she's not quite so sure; Does he count as something?
                                                                               -----
'We're all angels, Mara. Except we don't have wings to help us fly. No, we only have ourselves to depend on. And all it takes is enough strength to climb out of this hell, and reach our own personal heaven' He whispered those words into the night, the cold air rushing from between his lips and onto mine
' we're....we're '
' Fallen angels ' I mumble, mesmerised by the grey storms trapped in his eyes.
' Yes. Yes, we are. And baby, my heaven is not up there with the rest of the angels. It's down here in the pits of hell, with you by my side'

"Who are you?" I demand. The boy in front of me replies, "That's not how this works, love." I freeze. That phrase. That voice. It can't be. I look up but he's just a cloaked silhouette. The rustling stops when boys surrounding us step from their hiding spots and light lanterns. Every single one of them masked and cloaked. Except the one in front of me. The lamps lit, and I see his face. "Whoa," slips from my lips as I stare at the boy in front of me. His eyes widen and his jaw almost, just almost, drops. With his guard down for that one instant I lose all fear and gain control. "You!" I yell suddenly overflowing with anger. My stomach heats with rage. I fight to stand, stronger this time with anger as fuel. He backs up, his breath increasing. Obviously, uneasy, I take it as a win and almost stand all the way. "You. What are you doing here? How did you find this place!" He switched to angry. "You! You're the reason! They put me back because of you! It was all cause of you! It was your fault! All of it!" I'm so angry I yell only what I can. My thoughts flying through my head I can only yell unexplained nonsense. I've never felt anger like this before. The red glow lightly pours off my own skin and I take notice to it. I compare it to the glow coming off of him. Suddenly, it's an instinct to allow the anger to explode and in doing so the red glow is taken from his chest as I absorb it all and throw it out in all directions. I yank down away from the boy holding me just as the red glow gets sucked from him, absorbed into my hands, and then thrown out in a sphere of red glow. All boys stumbling but not by much and the one holding me gets knocked back, I'm free. "You die now, Peter Pan!"

**** Mature content**** "You wanna know why I'm angry?" He said in between the kisses. "Because of you" He said as he continued and my body tensed and shivered. "Every time I think I have control over myself and decide to leave this place... to leave ... you. I stop and walk back like a puppy" He said turning me around now. "Every time I meet someone, I compare them to you. Every fucking time I remind myself that you're an enemy, I want you even more" he said and I knew that this was one of the hardest thing for him to do. He and neither I like to talk about how we are feeling or face reality. Yet he still did it. "What the fuck are you doing to me Mia Bella?" WORK IN PROGRESS‼️ ─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ── There was no noise; I was at peace, and ironically, the stone-cold pavement never seemed warmer as my blood oozed out of me and around me like a painted canvas. I was slowly losing consciousness, but my mind never seemed happier now that I was dying. The white walls with big bright lights did not resemble heaven; in fact, it was quite the opposite. I thought I had died. When I came to, I found myself in this strange place, disoriented and confused. I looked around and found another five pairs of eyes looking at me with the same emotion swirling in their gaze. Now, 15 years later, I train with these girls. Our makers take care of us, feed us, and make sure we are clean, healthy, and fit. Some of us never had that; that's probably why it took so long for us to realize we were being used. The dirty work they made us do, none of us questioned it. How could we when we were taken off the streets? For a chance at normalcy, we settled for anything, even if that meant blurring the lines of right and wrong. After a mission gone haywire, we started noticing, and now we strike back to take our voices and reclaim the power that was used on us as a way to control us. After all, they are the ones who trained us; we are just returning our long-overdue favour. ─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ── Rankings : Featured in Mystery-thriller #5 in Mystery-thriller on 7/12/24

Maddox: She was everything I couldn't have. Beautiful, smart, driven and sassy. Super sarcastic, and feisty and pushed my buttons at every opportunity but still, she drove me wild. The one problem? She's a Silver Spade girl and I belong to the Cardinal Angels. I wanted to get her out of my mind but her elusive beauty drove me to keep looking. Keep digging and eventually found myself trapped helping her out of a situation she should never have been in when I vowed to leave her be once I knew who she was. Even if she didn't want my help and reminded me so enough times to make me want to hate her, I never could, not when I found myself falling for her instead. Our paths crossed by chance one night and that was it. I knew I had to talk to her again, to have her. Even if it killed me in the process. Lolita: A charismatic stranger and an argumentative conversation at a bar. The kind of place I habitually avoided unless I had no choice. Yet after that one encounter, I can't get the sarcastic and aggravating stranger out of my mind. Driven mad by thoughts of meeting him again even just to ask for a name, I never imagined that this small thought would develop into an obsessive attraction to the enemy. He never told me his name but he didn't have to, his signature angel wing tattoo told me all I needed to know. He was danger in its most concentrated form, but all that did was get me obsessed more since I'd never been good at staying away from what I couldn't have. I hated him, then it became something more. I said I hated him, but that was a lie, even if I wish it weren't. On the wrong side of the tracks one night two paths crossed by accident and ignited a burning flame. You know what they all say: it's a thin line between love and hate. A Trial of Spades and Angels Novel
