Why We Laugh (#Wattys2018) by CarpeDiemWrite

"The laugh cracked loudly into the school's atrium, like a shot of a gun. A quick bullet. A deadly bullet the pierces through flesh and bone. I realized then... that a laugh was as lethal as a bullet." I thought bullying didn't exist. And if it did, I wasn't a bully. Except I was. We all were. Not because we beat kids up. Or we called people freaks. Or gave them swirlies. Because we never did that. It was because we laughed." For these three kids, a playful laugh cuts deeper than a fist ever would. And the worst part is...they laugh along. 1.Eliza hides behind the brightest smile and stuttered words. 2.Reece desires the perfect body and will destroy himself to do it. 3.Hunter is the bad boy with sick suicidal jokes, screwing both Prozac and girls. But it is more than just those three: 4.London sits in her wheelchair trying to be normal 5. Ashton needs to return to the surface of people and stop cowering in the digital world 6. Griffith hides his autistic emotions. The story is told by a girl who always laughs. Drama, love, pain, tears, laughter, depression, weaknesses. We all laugh. But what does our laugh truly effect? "Hands down this is the best book I've read on wattpad. I don't even know what to say. I mean... I just.... Wow." -Irxdeo This book deals with heavy topics such as depression, suicide, eating disorders, abuse, so read carefully. I want to say some of these characters and scenes in the beginning are based on real people and real events, but some are not. Hi, guys! Thanks for checking this story out. Remember be brave and kind.

For Cadence Myers, you're not a true friend unless you're a book. To her, all people did was lie to you and waste your time. And by her sixteenth birthday, she had had enough of it. With a workaholic as a mom and a dad who is behind bars, she wonders why she has no social skills. Not that she's lonely or anything. She's not. Honest. She's perfectly fine. Anyway, why need friends if people like Dakota Black exist? Arrogant and as careless as he is annoying, Cadence wants nothing to do with the cocky male specimen. So what if he needs help passing almost three of his classes. That's his fault. So what if the good in her kind of wants to help him. She'll just have to ignore it. And so what if she kind of agreed to help him, failing to ignore her good side. Nothing would happen between the two of them. And so what if he's attractive. He told her she was boring and had no life. And if anything, she was not the boring one, he was. Okay, so what if that was a lie? So what if he was the most popular guy in school? She didn't care. She was perfectly okay with eating lunch with her books in the library in the far corner alone. That was fine by her. So what if she might've wanted at least one friend in her over prestigious boarding school. She was the quiet girl. She was the nobody. No one would want to be her friend anyway. And so what if Dakota Black kind of stole her heart along the way. Guys like him were just here to waste your time. Right? And so what if he made her so angry she could spit and so flushed you couldn't tell the difference between her and a tomato? So what if he was the only one that truly understood her and was pretty much her saving grace? And so what if he was, quite possibly, the love of her life? It didn't matter. It was just the effect that came with associating yourself with Dakota Black. And it didn't matter that when they were together, they became something more. They became Extraordinary. Her Silent Cries

11 parts Complete

You never really realize what kind of bad things can happen to people until you actually see these things happen. When I was seventeen, my best friend went through something that has left me traumatized to this day. If only we’d been more informed, maybe we could have done something. We could have tried to help. But I seemed to have been the only person listening to her silent cries for help. And there wasn’t anything I could do. Cover made by my friend Tee (AKA A_Blonde_Unicorn)
