Rise: A Dark Fantasy Novella

One hundred years ago, demons rose to Earth and possessed humans all at the same time, causing unsurmountable chaos throughout the world. Governments fell, and humans, now reduced to half a billion people, are struggling to survive in the resulting world. Eden, a sheltered fifteen-year-old, had lived in a small, tight-knit nomadic group her whole life, but when she returns from a forbidden adventure with her twin brother Ariel, she finds the rest of the group dead, except the person responsible for killing them: her own mother. Ariel stays behind to protect his sister from their possessed mother, and Eden runs as far as she can. She comes across a dilapidated shack, where she first hears the disembodied voice of a man calling himself "the angel Samael."
