Link is abandoned by his mother when he's born and his father is dead, so Zelda's father and mother take him in when he's alive for just 3 hours. A few years later, they have Zelda, but Zelda's mother dies after giving birth to her. Zelda is younger, but since Link is a mute, she mostly takes care of him and protects him from danger.
