In order to solve a missing person's case, a talented crime journalist is faced with a difficult decision: does she trust the gruff but enticing police detective investigating the case or the misunderstood wealthy philanthropist whose charm threatens to undo all of her work?

Crime reporter Christina Lee thinks she's stumbled across the story of a lifetime when wealthy environmentalist Greg Bates goes missing. It is immediately assumed that he was kidnapped for ransom. But was he? There's no ransom note. And no clues as to his whereabouts. Did he commit suicide? Was he murdered? Or did he do a disappearing act and change his identity? If so, why? Even lead homicide detective, Noah Herzog, is stumped.

As time passes and leads remain nonexistent, Detective Herzog reluctantly wonders if Christina might be of some use after all. Despite his belief that she is far too attractive to be any good to his investigation, even if she once was a homicide detective herself, he begins to realize she is more than just a pretty face. She has good instincts, cop instincts, and Noah wonders why she switched to reporting.

When Christina's own unconventional investigation begins to yield good results, the mystery only deepens. It also becomes more personal than she could have imagined, and she finds herself pulled in different directions by two enticing men. She finds herself caught in the middle.
